Shana Wk 3 {Chestnut}

This is Turkish coffee, what is left of it anyway. They brew the grounds in a small copper pot over the stove then pour all of the contents into a small coffee cup. I have to say I am not a big fan, so my dear friend (who is Turkish) let me use her finished cup.
I have really wanted to get deeper into my photoshop ability by watching tutorials and reading books. I stepped out of my box and did a total overhaul of my photo. It was totally invigorating to know what I wanted to do and be able to execute it! I hope you enjoy my Turkish coffee.

We are still taking links for carnation-pink photos. Also, the link will be open for your Chestnut photos on Sunday. Happy hunting!

Chestnut by the Sea

"Chestnut" -- actually, I didn't know this was a "Crayola Color" -- until a few days ago. I am currently living in Istanbul and had not seen a chestnut until we moved here. They roast them on the street in little carts much like hot dogs in NYC. I tried one, and to me it tasted kinda like cauliflower. Oh well . . . that's me!

I am really enjoying my time here; however, I did come here reluctantly. The day I joined American Women of Istanbul (http://www.awi-instanbul.com/) my experience here changed completely. Many of these ladies have been here for many years (Up to 50), being married to Turkish men, they have made Istanbul their home. We meet every Wednesday for "Game Day" at the Yenikoy Spor Klub, where we play games and laugh a lot. These women are here for us -- the newbie's that is and I am so gratful!

So many of my photos come from this amazing location. Stepping right up to the edge of the Bosperous, the view is incredible; everything from the Bridge to the South to jellyfish swimming under our feet. The birds fly in rythm, like they are dancing, and the sound of the waves lapping against the concrete edge is somehow comforting.

My photo is of a Turkish staple called "Chi" (not spelled that way in Turkish, I have to learn how to use Turkish characters.) It is tea, sometimes strong and sometimes weak. I love the shape of the chi glass; it's just not the same when they serve it in a regular cup. Wednesday, I had four of these before lunch -- the strong kind and I was a little hyped up! I don't have a Crayola chestnut, so I hope my entry is close.

There is still time to link your "Carnation Pink" -- http://project64colors.blogspot.com/. Don't forget to check in tomorrow for another great Chestnut photograph.

Thanks for coming by,

Sheryl

I Love My Lips {Natalie}

I'm more of a portrait photographer so "Chestnut" was a challenge for me. It definitely required me to get out of my comfort zone.

I wanted to do something "out of the box". My Pastor's wife, Brenda Chase, is the counter manager at Clinique. I stopped by her makeup counter and with her expertise I was able to match the crayon perfectly.

Angels Watching Over You {Jeana - Chestnut}

Angels really never had a big meaning in my life, I mean I believe in Angels, I always read about Angels in the Bible.....But a little over two years ago, they took on a whole new meaning to me...that was the night my precious momma, my dear friend and "partner in crime" went to be with the Lord...and became an Angel to me. As a precious friend told me after that night, "Heaven is a little more real today knowing she is there." I am so thankful for the time we spent together, I miss her dearly but I never knew a person who was more ready or who wanted to go to heaven any more than my mom!
As I looked for the color chestnut, I glanced over to my desk where these Angels sit, and I saw the wings and the lantern and I knew that this was what I wanted to photograph.

"They word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path" Psalm 110:105

"But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day." Proverbs 4:18

Let your light shine to those around you, you never know who is in darkness and needs it!
Thanks for letting me honor my Mom by letting every one know what a precious lady she was

And A BIG Thank-you to all of you who are joining us an posting pics on your blog. Remember, the link for chestnut will be open Sunday and we are still accepting your pics for Carnation Pink.
Tell your photog friends about us and have them join in on the fun too!

A Sweet Chestnut Face {Kendall}

Hope you all didn't think I was leaving you hanging out to dry today!  I have been SICK and I hate it!  But my fever has disappeared and I am hoping it's doesn't find it's way back.

Chestnut was hard for me.  I kept thinking of wood, or something similar.  My friend, Jessica, has a sweet Chow puppy that comes to work with her once a week.  He is such a sweet dog and has such a sweet face.  He is close to chestnut.  Just a little lighter, but he wanted to be a model, so here he is...Winston Coover!

Come back tomorrow for another chestnut photo!  Thank you for joining us on our journey.  It is going to be a fun ride.

Crafty Chestnut {week3 by Brooke}

This week we are hunting chestnut, thoughout the week we hope to inspire you on your hunt with our chestnut inspired photos. The link up for chestnut will open on Sunday!

Ok, so lets talk chestnut, this color was kind of tricky for me. Last week when I was hunting carnation pink I thought I had already found my chestnut color, but after getting the crayon out the box and coloring with it a little I felt it didn't quite match. So I went on the hunt again...I just couldn't seem to find it.

Finally I came across these...

I thought the little pieces of outer shell were a pretty close match to the reddish brown color the chestnut crayon left on the paper. This photo worked and I had all intentions of ending my search and just going with this photo. However, when I was making some thank you notes to send to the guest of my son's birthday party, I noticed that some of the paper I was using was a close match too!

So, today you get a variety of chestnut. I went from hunting it to seeing it everywhere!

Come back tomorrow to see Kendall's take on chestnut! We will open up a linky for you to share your chestnut inspired pictures on Sunday, meanwhile you can see where carnation pink took us for week 2 and link up your carnation pink inspired photos here until Saturday. Curious on your thoughts, it this format working for you? We share then you share?

A little note on our monthly favorite giveaway, for the most part we will be giving away pieces of our own works of art, handcrafted items or the fabulous products found at SparksFly, but if you have a product or item you would like to donate for our giveaways please let us know!
